Indies Reopening From Monday 12th April
Next week, marks a hugely positive step forwards for indie businesses across the county with the easing of restrictions from Monday. Shops, restaurants, gyms and hairdressers open for the first time since Christmas. Businesses are working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure their spaces are as safe and welcoming as possible, but the big question is, will you be heading to your local high street or town centre? If you’re planning a trip to support your local indies next week, here is a list of some of our favourite Oxfordshire indies that will be open and ready to welcome you from Monday 12th April. >>

2 North Parade
Opened in September 2013, 2 North Parade is a neighbourhood produce store run by Peter Slade and Victoria Borondo.

Amy Surman: The Oxford Bead Shop
Amy runs a lovely friendly store tucked at the top of Cowley Road selling a fantastic array of jewellery making supplies.

Alfonso Gelateria
Bringing you an authentic Italian gelato with an ever-changing choice of great flavours.

A great independent art shop set up as a family owned independent in 1981. Today the shop caters for Oxford residents and students alike, with an extensive range of art and craft supplies.

BSM Social Club
Part record store, part craft beer bottle shop. They carry a wide range of punk, emo, math rock, instrumental and alternative records alongside hundreds of lovely beers and soft drinks, all available to drink in or take away.

Cherwell Boathouse
The Cherwell Boathouse is an iconic Oxford punt station and restaurant on the banks of the river Cherwell, close to the centre of Oxford.
Open for dining outside from the 12th April, and punt hire is also now available.

Coffeesmith
Coffeesmith’s little shop is in a beautiful 12th century building, slightly off the beaten track in the heart of Oxford, a perfect spot for coffee, cakes and pastries.

Colombia Coffee Roasters
Colombia Coffee Roasters is a speciality, single-origin coffee roasters born and based in Oxford (UK).
Their Summertown cafe is open Monday & Tuesday: 8 am to 5 pm, Wednesday to Saturday: 8 am to 6 pm and Sunday: 9 am to 6 pm. The Covered Market Cafe will be opening on 16th April, Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.

Face Oxford

Gee’s
Gee’s Restaurant offers locals and visitors a uniquely rustic, Mediterranean dining experience set in an iconic Victorian Glasshouse.

Grape Minds
Summertown’s independent wine merchant based on South Parade.

Hall Personal Training
Based in their own private studio in North Oxford, they offer private, semi-private and small group personal training in an exclusive environment with an incredible sense of community.

Hamblin Bread
Kate makes bread from stone ground British flour, water and salt, and use locally grown grain wherever possible. Kate & Hugo also sell house-made preserves, cheese from Neal’s Yard, provisions and a small selection of natural wines, ciders and beer.

The Handle Bar Cafe & Kitchen
The Handle Bar Cafe & Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, all made with love and carefully sourced ingredients from local independent suppliers.

Horsebox Coffee
Horsebox Coffee Co. is a small, independent coffee roastery based on a quiet working farm in South Oxfordshire.
Find Emily’s pop up horsebox cafe on the lawn at The Museum of Natural History from 9.30 am – 4.30 pm daily.

Hoyles of Oxford
An independent, family-run games shop based on Oxford’s High Street since 1997, they sell traditional and vintage table-top games.
Opening on the 12th from 10 am -6 pm, but then going forwards Tuesday – Sunday 10 am – 6 pm.

Indigo
Indigo was opened by Sarah and her partner Josh in 2008. Their mission is to support small producers and suppliers, and offer something different to their beloved Oxford community.
Opening on Monday 12th April, then the opening hours will be Tuesday to Friday – 11-4 pm and Saturday 10-5 pm.

Jericho Coffee Traders
Conceived in 2012, Jericho Coffee Traders has evolved from the back of a Vespa tricycle into a roastery and a speciality espresso bar in the heart of Oxford.
The High Street cafe is open from 10 am – 3 pm Monday to Sunday, and the roastery is open 9 am – 3 pm Monday to Friday, and 10 am – 2 pm on Saturdays.

Jessie’s Art Shed
Jessie and Olly, are the husband and wife duo behind Jessie’s Art Shed. They run an art shop in Eynsham, Oxfordshire where they host classes and workshops for all ages, stock a fantastic range of art products both in shop and online, and sell amazing creations by local artists.
Open from 12th April, Monday & Tuesday – 10 am – 3 pm (Open until 7 pm during school term time), Wednesday – Closed (10 am – 3 pm during school holidays), Thursday & Friday – 10 am – 3 pm, and Saturday – 10 am – 4 pm.

Mamma Mia
Mamma Mia is an Oxford Institution – serving the best pizza and pasta in the city for over 35 years.
The Summertown restaurant is opening for outside dining on 12th April.

Mostly Books
An award-winning independent bookshop located in the heart of Abingdon. Mostly Books offers an excellent range of books, greeting cards, gifts and children’s toys.

Objects of Use is a modern-day hardware store, home to a unique selection of everyday household tools, conscientiously sourced from around the globe.

Oxford Weaving Studio
The Oxford Weaving Studio is Oxfordshire’s first (and only!) community-minded creative studio dedicated to contemporary weaving.
Opening times are; weekdays: By Appointment Only, Saturdays: 10 – 1 pm and Sundays: Closed for Workshops.

Parsonage Grill
Parsonage Grill, famous for its intimate, bohemian, clubby atmosphere, displays an amazing collection of eclectic oil paintings; mainly portraits of well-known writers and artists.

Payne & Son
Payne & Son is an eighth generation family business, established in 1790. Judy started working in her father’s store in 1969, and now Anna and Max, the 8th generation, also work in the shop.
Reopening from 12th April, Monday – Fridays: 10 am to 5 pm and Saturdays: 10 am to 5.30 pm.

Pickle & Lime
Pickle & Lime is Oxford’s newest greengrocer, based on the vibrant Botley Road.

Pompette
The French word for tipsy — Pompette, a stylish charcuterie wine bar and restaurant in Summertown, Oxford.
Outside dining is available from 21st April.

Quod Restaurant & Bar
On Oxford’s bustling High Street, peering out onto St Mary’s Church and the iconic Radcliffe Camera, Quod Restaurant with its unrivalled location forms the lively hub of the Old Bank Hotel.
The terrace is open from 12th April for brunch, lunch and dinner.

Rainbow & Spoon Boutique
Amanda has run Rainbow & Spoon on Park End Street since 1982 and is one of Oxford’s most loved boutiques.

Rapture
Rapture is Oxfordshire’s longest running independent record store, right in the centre of Witney.

Reginald Davies
Reginald Davis are an independent family jewellers in Oxford, specialising in antique, second-hand and modern jewellery.
Open by appointment only.

Ronapainting Gallery
ronapainting gallery is new space that exhibits a large selection of pieces from paintings and sculptures to prints, photography and illustration. Rona’s current exhibition is ‘FOR WOMEN, BY WOMEN’, celebrating International Women’s Day.

Sanders of Oxford

SO Sustainable
SO Sustainable is a zero waste shop in Watlington providing organic whole foods, household cleaning products and sustainable health and beauty alternatives.

Society Cafe
Society Café are an independent speciality coffee shop in the heart of Oxford city centre. Their focus is on making great coffee sourced directly from the best coffee producing farms in the world and roasted by the best roasters in the world.
Open for takeaways and outside seating, Monday – Friday: 8 am – 4 pm, and Saturday & Sunday: 9 am – 5 pm.

Tap Social Movement
Tap Social was opened in 2016 and is a craft brewery, coffee house and community space that provides training and employment to people serving and recently released from prison sentences.
The Botley Taproom is open from 15th April, Thursday from 5 pm – 11 pm, Friday from 4 pm – midnight and Saturday from 2 pm – midnight. The White House is opening for outside seating from next week.

The Edge Eatery
Inspired by their time in New Zealand, owners and chefs, Phoebe and Tom created The Edge Eatery to share their love of cooking and foodie ideas with their community.
Open for takeaways Monday to Wednesday 8.30 am – 2 pm, Thursday & Friday 8.30 – 8 pm, Saturday 9 am – 8 pm & Sunday 9 am – 2 pm.

The Folly
The Folly offers an excellent dining experience in a unique location as well as providing wonderfully unusual experiences such as their Cruise and Dine package, cocktail masterclasses and Mad Hatters Tea Parties.
Opening the river terrace on Monday. Opening all week in the evening and daytime Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Boat trips will also start up on Monday 12th April.

The Garden of Oxford
The Garden of Oxford was established in Oxford’s historic Covered Market in 1984 and has gained an enviable reputation for being one of the region’s finest flower shops.

The Jericho Cafe

The Market Cellar Door
The Market Cellar Door is a tiny ‘Hybrid’ wine shop and wine bar in Oxford’s Covered Market. They sell over 200 wines from around the world, including organic, low intervention and English wines, alongside the classics.

The Missing Bean
The Missing Bean was founded by Ori and Vicky in 2009 to establish a speciality coffee scene in the heart of Oxford.
The roastery is open Monday – Friday – 8 am – 3 pm and Saturday & Sunday – 9 am – 3 pm. The Turl Street cafe opening hours are Monday – Friday – 8 am – 4 pm, Saturday – 9 am – 5 pm and Sunday – 10 am – 4 pm.

The Orange Bakery
Orange Bakery are a father and daughter bread bakery specialising in sourdough. Their mission is to make good bread available to the local community. Check out their shop on their local High Street in Watlington.
