ABOUT

50,000 customers visit YS cafés each year because of the quality of the coffee and food, it just ‘so happens’ that they leave with a different perception of ‘disability’ too. Their Life Changing social enterprise cafés are home to the YS traineeship which supports people with learning disabilities and autism take the step from education to employment. Yellow Submarine believe people with learning disabilities and autism deserve to live life to the full and the café traineeship is just one of the ways the charity support individuals with additional needs. Often rated #1 for coffee and tea in Oxford by TripAdvisor, why not drop in and check it out? Handily situated on Park End Street, between Oxford’s train station and the city centre, and also in Witney’s leisure centre. The cafes serve delicious ‘Life Changing Bakes’ made on site by the team of trainee bakers, as well as fresh sandwiches, toasties, soup and salads – and of course great coffee!

For a decade now we have been running our ‘Life Changing Cafes’ and the support of our incredible customers across Oxfordshire has made it possible to achieve so much in this time. Despite the challenges all businesses have faced in recent years, we have been able to train over 50 people with learning disabilities and autism in our cafes. We have enabled our trainees to gain real-life work experience in a busy, fast-paced environment and have supported them to gain the skills and independence to move into new roles elsewhere.

I love the Yellow Submarine Cafe, if ever I am in central Oxford, I will pop in there for some lunch, as I just want to support them. It’s great how they are supporting and encouraging people with special needs to work in the community.
