Artweeks: the Independent Oxford members taking part

Oxfordshire Artweeks is the UK’s oldest and largest open studios event, a three week celebration of the visual arts which takes place each May in hundreds of venues across the county.

North and West Oxfordshire: Saturday 4 – Sunday 12 May
Oxford city: Saturday 11 – Sunday 19 May
South Oxfordshire: Saturday 18 – Monday 27 May

Independent Oxford members are taking part either as exhibiting artists/creatives, or as venues for the shows. Here’s what’s coming up this May. >>

Bridget Wheatley

Greyfriars Church, OX4

Members Sally-Anne Stewart and Bridget Wheatley are among nine artists exhibiting at Greyfriars Church on Iffley Road for Artweeks 2024.

You will find paintings, collage, jewellery, ceramics, photography and more.

Opening hours: 12pm-5pm on 11, 12, 18 and 19 May.

On 11 May, Silvie will be hosting a pop up cafe with a small, tasty menu in the secret garden.

Bridget will also be exhibiting jewellery in The Garden Room, 187 Campbell Road, OX4 3NT. on 13 May (2-4pm) and 14-17 May (12-4pm).

Amy Surman Artweeks 2024

Spice of Life

Amy Surman will be among an eclectic group of 20 artists and their interpretations of life.

Immerse yourself in oil paintings, water colours, acrylics, mixed media, jewellery as well as ceramics and photography and browse the books of some of the artists who happen to be writers as well.

Caper Artweeks 2024

Precious Things

Caper in East Oxford is acting as a venue for three artists for this years Artweeks. Karina Tarin, Chloe Romanos and Kathy Shaw will bring painting, jewellery and sculpture to life in the hidden back room of the bookshop.

Introduction to weaving oxford

Oxford Weaving Studio

Cassandra Smith is a Montreal-born designer and hand-weaver working with natural materials to create luxuriously warm and tactile interior products, artwork and lighting.

Cassandra is also founder of The Oxford Weaving Studio, her community-based weaving studio that she set up in 2018. She invites visitors to her studio learn this exciting craft through weaving workshops, drop-in creative sessions and by offering unique weaving kits, tools, yarn and her original design of frame loom, ‘The Oxford Frame Loom’.

The Oxford Weaving Studio is exhibiting at Makespace, Artistotle Lane, OX2 6TP, 11 – 12 May, 11am – 5pm.

Etta Rain Ceramics

Etta Rain is exhibiting ceramics along with other potters and artists this Artweeks. Other artists will include members of Sabali Pots Community Studio, watercolour paintings by Melanie Gross and Cassandra Sabo of the Oxford Weaving Studio.

Rachel is a maker who creates one of a kind functional hand built and wheel thrown objects.

Nic Vickery Animal Artist Oxfordshire

Nic Vickery Animal Artist

Nic is always happy to be part of Oxfordshire Artweeks, and this year will be back with Christopher Townsend and Guen Palmer, who are celebrating their 25th year of exhibiting together.

Along with their beautiful metal sculptures, bespoke jewellery, you can find Nic’s originals, prints and cards. They will also be joined by talented woodturner Gylnn Allcock.

Find them at The Old Forge, near Asthall/Burford, May 4 – 12, open every day from 11am till 5pm.

There will be live demos and work in progress, come for a look round, free entry and refreshments.

Nikki Shield Designs Like These Artweeks 2024

Designs Like These

Painting to Nikki from Designs Like These is a heartfelt form of expression. She is inspired by the beauty of small things, colour and a sense of place. Nikki loves to play with bold joyful colours and expressive mark-making. Her work is a mixture of abstract painting and objects of interest.

Nikki also collects wood and metal type. She has a background in graphic design and loves to create letterpress designs and experiment with linocut prints.
