Creating the Perfect Yoga Playlist with Katie Phelps
“Music is physical. It’s got your heartbeat; it’s got rhythms; it’s got space. It’s a physiological reality along with a mystical reality” Emily Saliers
A carefully crafted playlist can be a powerful tool for yoga teaching; helping to convey dharma, support the arc of class and enhance students’ experience of their yoga.
Maybe you’ve never used music in your yoga classes and are curious about why and how you could incorporate it into your teaching. Maybe you regularly use music but would like your playlists to support your class themes and energetics more effectively. Whatever your experience, join Katie to explore how to use music in a more meaningful way. You’ll come away with a deeper understanding of why we use music in class; what tracks you might use when and why; and how to compile a playlist that supports your dharma and sequencing. Expect music, movement, discussion (dancing optional!).
Katie is a senior Vinyasa yoga teacher at YogaVenue and teaches the music module on the 250hr Spiralling Crow Yoga Teacher Training. She has a deep love of music and yoga and spends almost as much time crafting playlists and she does on her yoga mat.
