What to do in Oxfordshire: September 2022
There is an abundance of good stuff happening in Oxford this month. Whether it’s something fitness or movement related you’re after, something inspiring, something boozy, or a spot of shopping – there’s plenty to get involved in within the wonderful Indie Oxford network as we head towards Autumn.

Workshops and events at EveryBody Studio
East Oxford yoga and movement studio Every Body Studio have heaps of good stuff coming up in September!
Dance your way into the month with Dance fitness for everybody With Becky.
If you’re a yoga teacher, the Menopause yoga CPD with Petra Coveney workshop may be of interest to you. This special Menopause Awareness CPD course for all qualified yoga and bodywork teachers (men welcome) is designed to help you modify your own classes and create safe and supportive spaces that are welcoming to students going through the menopause.
The Book Swap Club took a break in August, and now it’s back. As usual, bring a book or two with your name written inside, something to drink or a donation towards the wine.

Yoga, fitness events and kids courses at The Project PT
The Project PT are hosting an Adventure Fitness Day. Saturday 17th September / 10 – 1:30 PM
Scramble through an awesome assault course as a team, challenge your body and make new friends. Followed by sauna recovery and delicious food.
They also host awesome Yoga & Brunch events throughout the year – check their website for more info.
The Project PT also run course for all different ages. Youth Gym for 9-14 year olds is coming up this September, starting on the 13th and running throughout term time, every Tuesday 4.30-5.25pm. Youth Gym is for 9-14 year olds who want to build their confidence and strength in the gym. This class is perfect for those wanting to improve their strength & fitness on the pitch or those young people who don’t like ‘school sports’ but want to keep fit and stay healthy.

Free fitness bootcamps
FitLife are running FREE Bootcamps in Summertown every Saturday in September.
All abilities and ages welcome – children are also welcome. FitLife have partnered with their neighbours, 215 kitchen for your post workout refuel.

Free online natural movement class with Reclaim Movement
This is a 30 minute FREE entry-level ‘natural movement’ class covering some nourishing Ground Movements & Get Ups. Working on practical daily movement like getting up and down from the ground with good technique and moving on the ground is essential to moving well as we age.

The Oxford Wine Festival
The Market Cellar Door will be taking part in the upcoming Oxford Wine Festival, which promises to help you find fabulous wines in fun, relaxed and beautiful surroundings. Bringing together over 40 leading merchants and vineyards in one of Oxford’s most iconic buildings – the Oxford Union – for a celebration of everything that is great about the grape.

Exton Park sparkling wine masterclass
Exton Park are an award-winning sparkling wine producer in Hampshire. The Oxford Wine Company welcome Winemaker Corinne Seely to The Jericho Wine Rooms to go through the Exton Park range.
They’ll be pairing the wines with some specially selected cheeses, sourced from their neighbours The Jericho Cheese Company. This promises to be a very special tasting.

Interdisciplinary exhibition at Modern Art Oxford
Adapt Transform is an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring urban design and creativity, on display across two sites – Modern Art Oxford until 18 September and The Glass Tank Gallery at Oxford Brookes University until 11 September.
Free entry, no booking needed.

Upcoming mindfulness courses with Sally Harris Mindfulness
10 week ‘Staying Mindful’ course
This 10-week online course is for anyone who has already completed a mindfulness programme and wants to keep their practice on track. You’ll find it helpful if you struggle to make time for mindfulness or if you’re noticing old habits of stress, overthinking or worry starting to creep back in. Mondays 19th September – 14th November / 7 – 8.30 PM
Mindfulness for Health course
A friendly online group mindfulness course to help you live better with pain and illness. This course is free for Oxfordshire residents thanks to support from The Mix community centre and Abingdon & Witney college (usually £250+). Saturdays 24th September – 12th November / 10.30-12.30 PM
Embracing Autumn – day retreat
As autumn begins, take some time out to fuel up with a restful day of mindfulness and coaching activities with Sally Harris Mindfulness. This will be a restorative day retreat to set you up for the autumn.
This event will be held in a group of like-minded people in the peaceful surroundings of St Ethelwold’s House and gardens.

Flooring showroom launch on Abingdon Road
Floor Street are a community powered flooring company focusing on customer service, sustainability, quality and design. The new Oxford showroom opens at 330 Abingdon Road on Saturday 3rd September, and everyone is invited to their new showroom launch party!
Free drinks on the house, as well as delicious food, entertainment, gifts and special offers.

Author Jess Kid at Mostly Books
Jess Kidd will be visiting Mostly Books on Thursday 8th September to discuss her latest novel, The Night Ship. It is an imaginative historical epic of shipwreck, mutiny, fate and friendship, perfect for fans of The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton, The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, and The Night Watch by Sarah Waters.

Something to look forward to in October…
The Bleinhem Palace Autumn Fest takes place Saturday 1st October – Sunday 2nd October.
Michaelmas Market will be welcoming 50 Indie businesses alongside artisanal food stalls that celebrate the new “no-dig” regenerative farming plot in the Walled Garden. Workshops will be led by many of our Indie Oxford members.
Celebrity food writer and chef, Ursula Ferrigno of Jericho Kitchen will be creating fabulous fresh pasta bowls using produce picked straight from the garden. Advance booking recommended!

If you miss the social side of working in an office, or like many indie business owners, have a team of one, then join this after work meet up to catch up with other Oxfordshire indies, share indie business experiences, plan projects, and enjoy a pizza and a pint at the White Rabbit in the centre of Oxford, on Thursday 8th September at 6pm.
This event is for Independent Oxford members.
