Yellow Submarine Gears Up for Oxford Half Marathon with 65 Runners

Independent Oxford member, Yellow Submarine have announced its significant presence at this year’s Oxford Half Marathon on Sunday October 13th, with 65 dedicated runners donning bright yellow vests in support of the charity.

Yellow Submarine is a charity committed to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism to live life to the fullest. The charity provides an array of essential services for those with mild to moderate needs, including social clubs, activity days, residential holidays, and a traineeship. These initiatives foster increased confidence and independence among members while also offering much-needed respite for families and carers.

“Next Sunday I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon. Having grown up in Oxford, I am looking forward to seeing the city from a different perspective. I am also keenly anticipating running in aid of Yellow Submarine, a worthwhile cause which is close to me. Since finishing college, my younger brother has loved being part of the community at Yellow Submarine. In particular, he told me that he “enjoys planning the events at Periscope, and I like seeing the staff as well”. “I’ve been working at the Oxford Yellow Submarine Cafe supporting trainees for a year now.  It’s been amazing to see the positive changes in these Young People.  They learn so much – customer service skills, the expectations of the workplace and importantly they build positive interactions with peers, staff and the wider community.  I have chosen to take on the half marathon as a challenge for myself but also to raise money for this charity which really believes in giving opportunities to young people with learning disabilities and autism so they can live life to the full!” – Anna Dashwood, who works in the charities Life Changing Cafés.
