Stallholder Focus: Custom Made
The Independent Oxford Christmas Market is back this year on 2nd December this year at Turl Street Kitchen in Oxford. We’ve got an awesome line up of traders and this year, we’ve been finding out a little bit more about them ahead of the market.
Today we chat to Anna Butler about her business Custom Made.

Tell us about Custom Made.
Custom Made is a brand creating playful minimal jewellery and bright textile pieces. Each collection is thoughtfully designed and sourced using the perfect objects to bring the wearer a functional yet beautiful item they will find themselves wearing time after time. Each product is designed and created in house in the Custom Made studio in Oxford.

Tell us a bit about yourself, your role and what you enjoy most about your job.
Hi! My name is Anna Butler. I studied Fashion Design at University, then worked as a fashion designer for the high street for 6 years. I decided I wanted to work for myself so left my job in London and set up the Custom Made studio in Oxford. My role is EVERYTHING! I work on the collection alone except for very busy times when I have someone working with me on production. Because I work on all aspects of the business the job as a whole is enjoyable. Every day is different. But of course, I enjoy designing jewellery the most. A perfect day for me is sitting down at my bench with lots of new components and putting new designs together.

Describe the gifts you will be selling at the Independent Oxford Christmas Market.
The brand is comprised of different ranges that all slot together to complete the look. We have a collection of fine geometric themed sterling silver necklaces that’s are very popular and some lovely little minimal earrings in various shapes that sit with them. There is also a collection of acrylic pieces, earrings, brooches and necklaces in minimal geometric shapes but this is where I add a mix of colour. I am very into colour. Then we have a range of cord and metal necklaces. These are the more statement pieces. I mix brass (painted and plated) with polyester cords, silicone and wooden beads. Fun pieces to make and wear. All about shape and colour. My main inspirations. Everything is made in our Oxford studio and prices range from £15-£30.

What’s your favourite product in your range this season?
Currently it has to be the Sphaera XL necklace. It’s a statement piece which I’m trying to add more of to the range.

Lastly, what are your favourite indies in Oxford?
The Modern Baker. I love all the food there, especially all the sour dough products. It’s close to my house so easy access. I love the shop at the Old Fire Station. Harriet curates a lovely selection of products there from jewellery, cards, prints and magazines. A new love is the restaurant Pan Pan on St Clements. The food is South East Asia style street food. So good. Go with a bunch of friends and share the dishes. And the Jericho Cheese Company. I LOVE good cheese.

Anna’s collection is totally gorgeous and she has been part of the market since it started in 2015. Our Christmas Market will take place on 2nd December at Turl Street Kitchen. Join us from 10 am – 5 pm for a day packed full of awesome indies and festive fun!
Love, Rosie
