Stallholder Focus: The Basket Room
For a second year running the fabulous Basket Room will be joining us on the 26th November for our Indie Oxford Christmas Market. This year they’ll be at the Old Fire Station selling their wonderful range of versatile baskets. We’re big fans of these colourful and useful items!
The Basket Room sells handwoven storage baskets for the home and was created by Holly Dutton and Camilla Sutton through a combined passion for ethical design and ethical craft. Woven with vibrant colours & unique patterns, they work directly with weaving cooperatives in rural Kenya, Ghana & Tanzania to create stunning collections. Their main goal is to create access to market for these talented weavers, to provide them with a sustainable livelihood and the recognition they deserve. Many of the weavers rely on subsistence farming but when crops fail during dry periods, they turn to the art of weaving as an essential alternative income.
We’ll have to admit that between us we have a fair few of these baskets; they’re very versatile (and good looking too). They’re great for toiletries, plant pots, toy storage, as knitting storage, desk tidies, or just for generally adding some colour and pattern into the house. Check out their “Basket Uses” page if you don’t believe us… They also have fabulous bike baskets so you’ll look super snazzy riding around the streets of Oxford!
Find The Basket Room at the Old Fire Station on the 26th November for our Christmas market along with 14 other fabulous makers and independent shops. Once you’ve visit the Old Fire Station, make sure to get your flyer stamped for a chance to enter our prize draw and them make your way over the Turl Street Kitchen for the next 15 stalls!
Don’t forget that you can now buy tickets for all of our four workshops by Annie Sloan Home, Petite Fleur Oxford, Merrie & Bright and Create! by Simmonds and Holchester. All tickets can be purchased by the Old Fire Station website here. But be quick! Limited spaces available…
