February… the month of love. But Valentine’s Day is extra special this year because it’s the day you could win a goodie bag full of essential items from Oxfordshire’s indies to highlight our #LoveIndieOxford campaign – a 14 day challenge to shop only local and indie for a fortnight.

We’re not asking for a blanket ban on supermarkets forever, and we know that a certain large online shopping website can be rather useful at times, but we’re asking you to take two weeks to leave these behind in the hope that after the challenge you may have developed one or two more local shopping habits…

Here’s how to take part >>

* Explore local alternatives for regular purchases (e.g. veg boxes, farmers markets, bakeries, coffee roasters & butchers)
* No purchases from large internet providers
* Discover the local businesses that make up your community
* Use #LoveIndieOxford on socials to tell us how you’re getting on with the challenge

THE COMPETITION

To kick start the #loveindieoxford challenge and to give you some inspiration, a number of Oxfordshire’s indies have clubbed together to donate a range of essential items to prove to you how easy it can be to shop local.

WHAT CAN YOU WIN?

🥔 Locally sourced seasonal fruit and vegetables from Bonners in the Covered Market Oxford
🧼 Shampoo bar from The Oxford Soap Company in the Covered Market Oxford
👕 Washing vouchers from Oxwash
🍞 Bread and essential(!) cake from Cultivate Oxford

SHOPPING FOR YOUR ESSENTIALS

Before we get into the nitty gritty of how to enter, here’s some extra inspiration on where and how to shop for essentials locally and independently. There’s a whole host of places in Oxford City Centre and all around the county selling fresh fruit and veg, bread, dry goods, coffee, tea and more…

I’m really passionate about Independent Oxford and supporting and promoting independent businesses in Oxfordshire. Indie businesses are the life blood of our towns, cities and communities, but they need support to survive and thrive. Creating a network that provides a space for indies to find peer support, knowledge and information is so important, and means businesses are far more likely to continue. Supporting indies means a stronger local economy and a closer, inclusive community for all.
