Abingdon Distillery is bringing more whisky to Oxfordshire with the launch of its first release of single malt whisky.
A limited-edition inaugural release is now available to buy. It combines two cask types – ex-bourbon with French red wine from one of the most prestigious wineries in the world, Chateau Margaux.
The whisky has flavours including dark chocolate, vanilla and gentle spices, with layers of tart raspberry, cherry and stewed plums.
The independent distillery already produces award winning gin and rum and will be releasing more whisky in the future.
Owner and head distiller Jordan Morris says, “This has been a fantastic journey, both personally and for the distillery, and I am absolutely delighted that we can finally release our whisky out into the world. After all, whisky is for sharing.
“This first bottling brings together two favourites of mine, bourbon and red wine, for an exceptionally fruity dram that is very approachable.
“We have some fantastic releases planned over the coming years and we want to give you whisky you have never tasted before. Working with some extremely rare and small producers across the globe, we have managed to source some exceptional casks that will produce some exceptional whiskies.”
Abingdon Distillery focuses on small batch whiskey, using English grains with long fermentation times in wooden vessels over seven days to create a fruity and flavourful spirit.
The hands-on process involves a two-man team, with no automation or machines to assist, taking three weeks to produce one barrels worth of spirit.
