Silvie’s Sunday Lunch with a Difference
The other week Jess from Silvie got in touch with us to proudly announce a new offer from the ever-popular indie eatery – a relaxed, home cooked roast with a difference. So off my other half and I went to try out the new Sunday lunch offer.
Coming into the cosy, home from home venue you’re presented with a simple menu – one meat option, one vegan with all vegan and vegetarian sides. The opening week started with topside of beef or spiced roasted cauliflower plus a delicious mix of no ordinary roast sides! Crispy smoked potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli, sweet Chantenay maple carrots, nut roast stuffing, horseradish cream and mushroom sauce.
Oh, and there’s delicious dessert included in the £16.00 per head cost! On the day we went blood orange and almond cake with oat crème fraiche or pear chocolate loaf with hot chocolate sauce were the two options of the day.
Now my other half is South African, and a huge meat fan so was dubious about the vegan heavy menu. However, he was pleasantly surprised by the tasty sides and chuffed with his deliciously cooked beef. I went for the cauliflower main and was pleased with the good portion size but would have liked it a little softer and a larger helping of that moreish mushroom sauce. We were both particular fans of the scrumptious nut roast stuffing and the crispiness of the roasties but did find the overall smoky flavour sometimes detracted from the more delicately flavoured sides.
As the for desserts, we got one of each and shared the two. I know that Silvie pride themselves on their delicious cakes and these did not disappoint! The orange and almond cake was soft and moist, and I loved the contrast of the slightly bitter delicate orange flavour and the creamy oat crème fraiche. Paul is a huge fan of chocolate and so could have licked the plate clean of the hot chocolate sauce covered sweet pear and chocolate loaf.
Overall this is a super place to go for an alternative Sunday Roast and you get a lot for your buck at £16.00 a head. The cosy but bustling atmosphere makes it feel like you’re having a Sunday lunch amongst family and friends, and for groups with lots of dietary requirements you’re well covered with the large table space in the conservatory. The fact they also have Rosie the friendly, chilled out cat makes it even more of the winner for us…!
Have you been and tried Silvie’s new Sunday Lunch menu? What did you think?
