Staying on the theme of summer, it is the perfect time of year to grab a drink and a bite to eat whilst getting some sunshine and fresh air.

I am a huge fan of the Oxford food scene, so here is the Independent Oxford’s 2025 outdoor dining guide- highlighting the hospitality businesses in our community that have terrace seating.

Gees Oxford

Gee’s Restaurant and Bar

Gee’s terrace is the spot to be this summer. Serving up a Mediterranean-inspired menu using the best seasonal ingredients, features regional dishes in its menu from Spain, Portugal, and Italy.

The Folly Restaurant

Riverside dining is available at The Folly all year round, but you might as well enjoy it in the sunshine. The Folly offers an incredible dining experience right on the Folly Bridge.

Cherwell Boathouse

Located on the banks of the river Cherwell and close to Oxford city centre, both the Restaurant and the Marquee on the terrace of Cherwell Boathouse overlook the river. Al fresco dining is available, and they serve modern English food.

Known for its incredible pizzas, The White Rabbit is a pub located in central Oxford. They believe in a pizza and a pint, and all ingredients are carefully selected by their Italian head chef. There is a lot of outdoor seating available.

Waterside Café is a hidden gem located at Farmoor Reservoir. Open daily, the cafe has unbeatable views and offers a delicious brunch, lunch, coffee, and cake. They use fresh ingredients and local produce wherever possible in their menu.

The Port Mahon

The Port Mahon has a hidden beer garden, in case you did not know. Serving fresh, seasonal food and Sunday roasts, alongside ten beer taps, small batch wines, and its famous £5 Negronis, their beer garden is the perfect after-work spot.

Home to Oxford’s iconic steak platter, The Chester pub’s garden plays host to regular BBQs and The Chester Beer & Cider Festival. They are also dog-friendly, and their small sunshine terrace is the place to be this summer.
