Maria Bonita bakery is an artisan bakery specialising in vegetarian, vegan and wheat-free cakes, made fresh every week with no additives or preservatives. Maria is passionate about using locally sourced ingredients and crafting high-quality cakes that celebrate both flavour and tradition.
Founded in 2020 at the start of the pandemic, Maria’s bakery blends the vibrant flavours of her Mexican heritage with European baking techniques honed over a decade of experience. Her dedication to quality and innovation has earned recognition, including a feature in Telegram Magazine, where her brownies were named the best by renowned food writer Diana Henry.
For nearly four years, Maria has been creating handcrafted cakes that bring people together—whether it’s a rich, indulgent brownie or a delicate, wheat-free treat. She believes great cakes should be accessible to everyone, no matter their dietary needs and takes pride in offering something truly special.

I started my business out of a love for baking and a desire to share flavours that feel like home. Growing up in Mexico, food was always a way to bring people together and I wanted to recreate that joy here in Oxford. Since moving in 2015, I’ve fallen in love with this city—its warmth, its independent spirit and its appreciation for quality, handmade food. Being part of Oxford’s vibrant community has been a gift and I love seeing people enjoy my cakes, knowing they’re made with care, tradition and the freshest local ingredients. It truly feels like home.
