The theme for Black History Month this year is “Reclaiming Narratives.” This highlights a significant shift toward recoginising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture.

Race Resistance

Black History Month: 100 Years On

At Race & Resistance, every month is Black History Month. However this October, The Oxford Research Centre In The Humanities has an exciting evening lecture to celebrate Black History.

Dr. Kesewa John (Goldsmiths, University of London) will deliver a lecture entitled: Black History Month: 100 years on. There is going to be time at the end for a Q&A.

Blackwell's Black History Month Event

Race, Resistance, and Empire

Blackwell’s on Broad Street is hosting an event to mark Black History Month.

Preeti Dhillon, Lucy Fulford, and Sheela Banerjee will be talking in-depth about their respective books. This event is chaired by Yasmin Khan.

Black History Month at Kellogg College

Black History Month Lecture

Kellogg College is celebrating Black History Month with its annual lecture that is open to all. Guest speakers will be announced soon!

Refreshments will be served from 5 pm and the lecture will be followed by a drinks reception in The Hub.

BHM Many Voices Collection Weekend/ OPL Pop-Up

The Many Voices Collection is going to be popping up at the library for Black History Month.

The Many Voice collection is put together by Oxford Poetry Library and The Children’s Allotment of children’s books which feature black characters. These are written by black writers or are centered on an anti-racist message.

Reclaiming narratives: Oxford Brookes celebrates Black History Month with inspiring talks and events

Oxford Brookes University is celebrating Black History Month with an array of lectures and talks. They are kicking this off with a keynote lecture from Trevor Sterling, the first Black Senior Partner of a UK top 100 law firm.

Trevor is going to share his journey and talk about the importance of self-belief, irrespective of social challenges, in the John Henry Brookes (JHB) Lecture Theatre on the Headington campus.
