6 Ideas For Plastic Free July
This month is Plastic Free July, a global movement that helps millions of people reduce the amount of plastic they consume with the goal to have cleaner streets and oceans, and build stronger communities.
Here at Independent Oxford, we are striving to reduce the amount of plastic we bring into our homes, whether that’s switching to solid shampoo, or simply remembering to take a tote bag to the shops, there are some really easy ways we can reduce our plastic consumption. So whether you are going all in with #plasticfreejuly or just want to change your habits over time, we’ve put together six ideas to help reduce the amount of plastic in your life. >>

Buy Local
Shopping local means you can cut down the amount of plastic you get with your groceries. Check out 2 North Parade, Hamblin, The Orange Bakery, Worton Kitchen Garden and Colombia Coffee Summertown for great plastic free produce.

Plastic Free Alternatives
Invest in reusable products to reduce the amount of plastic you throw away. Fairtrade St Michaels & Indigo have a great range of home wares to help you go plastic free.

Zero Waste Shopping
More zero waste shops are popping up across Oxfordshire so you can buy kitchen essentials without the plastic packaging. Check out So Sustainable in Watlington, OxUnboxed in Little Clarendon Street, Oxford and Flo’s Refill Shop in Florence Park.

A Feel Good Wardrobe
YOU Underwear recently published a really interesting blog about invisible plastic fibres and the impact they have on our planet. If you’re thinking about a plastic free wardrobe makeover, check out YOU Underwear for organic cotton underwear that lets you look good, feel good and do good.

Lather Up
Our bathrooms are often the jam packed with plastic, so if you want to go plastic free you’ll need to switch to the hard stuff. Oxford Aromatics and Neve’s Bees have a great range of soaps to sniff out.

Fruit & Veg Deliveries
A great way to have a real impact on the amount of plastic that comes into your home each week, is switching to a local fruit and veg delivery. Bonners, Local Oxford & Cultivate.

Thinking about how you can reduce plastic in your life is just the first step. The more conversations we have with friends, family and colleagues to look at ways to reduce plastic in all areas of our lives the better.
