This month, the Oxford Yarn Store turns 10, and to celebrate, Lizzie, Matt and the team have created a special competition in support of Oxford Food Hub.

Oxford Yarn Store

In celebration of their 10th anniversary, Oxford Yarn Store, a local landmark of the picturesque North Parade Avenue, is inviting people of all ages and ability to get their creative hats on and knit, stitch, crochet or weave a single 20 cm x 20 cm square depicting something that represents or symbolises Oxford for you.

Oxford Yarn Store owner Lizzie explains;
“We are thrilled that knitting and crafting is surging in popularity and that people are still supporting their local independent shop. The squares are a great way of using up yarn remnants or recycling old craft items– so very low or no cost but also saving materials from landfill. Any material or method can be used to make your square, however the edge/border of your square must be able to be sewn to another. I grew up in our wonderful city of Oxford and it’s a hub of inspiration with its famous architecture, history, universities, bridges, and famous residents – we’re excited to see how creative people can be! We’re also delighted that illustrator Rosie Leech has designed a beautiful anniversary image for us – we love her illustrative style! All squares entered will be stitched into blankets to be auctioned as part of a wider fundraising event to raise money for The Oxford Food Hub.”

I’m really passionate about Independent Oxford and supporting and promoting independent businesses in Oxfordshire. Indie businesses are the life blood of our towns, cities and communities, but they need support to survive and thrive. Creating a network that provides a space for indies to find peer support, knowledge and information is so important, and means businesses are far more likely to continue. Supporting indies means a stronger local economy and a closer, inclusive community for all.
