Rowan Paton: TOTALLY OVERWHELMED
TOTALLY OVERWHELMED is Rowan Paton’s long-awaited solo show of exciting new paintings and works on paper.
Rowan Paton is a Scottish artist who graduated with a BA in Drawing and Painting from Edinburgh College of Art, before heading to the USA to study for a MFA in Painting and Printmaking at Yale University School of Art. She lives and works in Edinburgh.
Employing collage, print, wordplay, and pattern, Rowan’s brightly coloured work is characterised by the development of imagined visual space. Rowan has written about her painting that “essentially, it is about escapism. I create myself alternative environments.” She has always been fascinated by mountains and their presence since holidaying with her grandparents on Arran as a child, and landscape, and in particular, the mountain, provide a reference through which to explore themes of environmental change, mental health, and otherness.
