Every Monument Will Fall: Dan Hicks in conversation
We’re thrilled to announce a special evening of decolonial discussion with author and curator @profdanhicks , coming Thursday October 9th at @commongroundoxford
How do we face up to the UK’s imperial heritage – and present – when statues and monuments which enshrine colonial violence persist in our public spaces? Oxford has been a key battleground in the challenge to such visual symbols of oppression, as witnessed with the Rhodes Must Fall campaign. Elsewhere, but equally relevant, we’ve seen the removal and return of stolen items from museum collections – and the work of restitution is far from over.
Dan will join writer, researcher and producer of @empirelinespodcast Jelena Sofronijevic in conversation around these and related topics, with plenty of opportunity for audience questions and contributions.
Ticketholders will also get a discount on Dan’s latest book, the eponymous ‘Every Monument Will Fall: A Story Of Remembering And Forgetting’ (Penguin Random House, 2025).
