Broad Canvas Drawing Club
We’d like to invite you to come sketching with us in 2020.
The Broad Canvas Drawing Club (or BC/DC as we like to call it) usually meets after work on the first Wednesday of each month. We have members with a wide mix of abilities; from the complete novice to accomplished artists, all drawn together (forgive the pun) by the desire to spend time sketching in Oxford just for the fun of it.
There’s no teaching or tutoring – don’t worry, no-one will be looking over your shoulder and judging your work. We simply get together and chat whilst enjoying some much needed quality time away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. Choose for yourself what aspect of the location you’d like to draw, some people focus on the architecture whilst others draw the faces of those around them.
Inevitably we end up in a local pub: if it’s a winter meeting we’re often tempted to spend the entire meeting there, well it’s essential we keep warm isn’t it? When we can be more sure of the weather we stray further afield. Previously we’ve captured the views from Port Meadow and also the roof of the Westgate Shopping Centre. On one memorable occasion we took up the challenge of drawing the youth ice-hockey team as they hurtled around the rink. We are open to any suggestions for interesting venues for 2020.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 5th February. We plan to meet at Broad Canvas (20 Broad Street, Oxford if you didn’t know) at 6pm and then move on, probably straight to the King’s Arms. Bring your art materials: pencils, paper, pens, charcoal or whatever you favour – just nothing too messy, we don’t want to be barred from our local pub for splashing paint everywhere. The whole thing usually lasts around a couple of hours but you can come and go as you please.
We’d love you to join us, it’s free and we’re a friendly bunch so don’t be scared. All we ask is that you reply on Facebook if you intend to join us: https://www.facebook.com/events/459591214943914/
We hope to see you all soon.
The BC/DC.
