ABOUT

Jason Brown is a children’s author and illustrator based in Kiddington, Oxfordshire.
His love of science fiction, fantasy and cryptozoology has inspired both his written and illustrated work. His self-published children’s book, Carl Loft and the Oover Monster, was a successfully funded Kickstarter project that transformed his planned digitally printed paperback into a beautiful, litho-printed hardback book. A revised, second edition is now available in a selection of local independent bookshops in and around the Oxfordshire area.

Jason also attends arts and crafts markets, where he sells a wide range of themed merchandise based on the characters from his book. These include handmade monster bookmarks, greetings cards, ‘How to Identify Monsters’ posters, character fridge magnets and high-quality A4 prints featuring illustrations from the book.

He also enjoys visiting local schools, where he not only reads to the children but also tutors a creative arts and crafts session afterwards. These events are not exclusive to schools, and he has been booked for readings in local community centres and garden centres, where the interaction of both parent and child in the drawing sessions has been a hugely rewarding experience. To find out more about these ‘Arts, Crafts and Monsters’ events, please contact Jason via email or through his Instagram page.

It was always a dream of mine to one day illustrate my own children’s book. As a keen drawer, I was never your traditional landscape, still life kind of artist, more a scaly monster, giant robot kind of guy.  These sci-fi leanings have clearly shaped my choice of story and characters. I absolutely love storytelling, especially the responsibility it gives you for teaching children about the world we live in. I know that Carl Loft is just the first of many stories I plan to write and illustrate, and the bonus of reading to children in schools and public events is one of the highlights of my illustration career.

Three women celebrate outside the upcoming Everybody Studio, a yoga, Pilates and barre studio. The shopfront features large "Coming Soon" window graphics in a warm peach and burnt orange botanical design. All three women have their arms raised in excitement — one stands to the far left in a dark long-sleeved top and black leggings, one in the centre wears a black sweatshirt, and one strikes a dynamic pose in front of the signage in a dark zip-up jacket and patterned leggings. The entrance doors to the unit are visible to the right.NewsNew yoga, Pilates and barre studio opens in Botley
