SUMMARY:Exploring Strengths in Autism - A Zine Making Workshop Study
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition features a collection of Zines created by 18 autistic young people who participated in the “Exploring Character Strengths in Autism – Zine Making Workshop Study”\, led by Dr. Jiedi Lei’s research team at the University of Oxford. This research study focused on helping autistic children and young people challenge unhelpful stereotypes associated with how autism is portrayed through popular film / TV and media\, and to change the narrative by recognising their personal unique strengths and abilities through exploring Character Strengths.   \nCharacter Strengths make up 24 universal traits that we all hold (e.g.\, Bravery\, Creativity\, and Kindness) and motivate us to take action in everyday life. All young people created Zines – a do-it-yourself publication – that showcased their individual stories of exploring strengths use in everyday life. Guided by young people’s voices and their Zine creations\, we hope that visitors will learn about autism through a strengths focused lens to celebrate individual differences in neurodiversity.   \nThis work is supported by the Public and Community Engagement with Research (PCER) Fund at the University of Oxford and The Paul Foundation.

SUMMARY:Cally Trench and Tineke Bruijnzeels: Day after day after day
DESCRIPTION:Daily drawings by the two artists lie at the heart of this exhibition: Tineke Bruijnzeels’ project ‘One more line a day’ using a wide variety of materials and Cally Trench’s ‘Left Hand\, Right Hand’ drawings in ink. Both projects reveal the passage of time\, and focus on the unit of the day – the most important measure of time in our lives\, the unit that governs our routines of waking\, sleeping\, eating and work. \nThe exhibition also includes Tineke’s new patterned abstract oil paintings; curiosity and play are the driving forces behind this project: within the rules that Tineke has set herself\, what will emerge? \nThis will also be the first chance to see Cally’s new series of drawings of flooded houses\, which continue her exploration of the fragility of everyday life\, as well as a new board game and animation films. \nOpening hours: Mon – Sat 10am – 4pm\nClosed: Sun and Bank Holidays \nExhibition Opening\nTuesday 30 June 6-8pm \nDrawing Workshop with the Artists\nThursday 2 July 2-3.30pm\nFree event / booking required \nMeet Cally Trench\nWednesday 15 July 11am-12.30pm \nExhibition Tour and Discussion with the Artists\nSaturday 8 August 2-4pm\nFree event / booking required
