All of Emily Marston’s work is hand built in her studio in East Oxford. Before constructing each piece, she colours sections of clay with pigments. These colours are then marbled or layered by hand into white clay, to form unique patterns embedded into the work’s surface, making each piece a one-off.When each piece is dry, it is sanded before going into the kiln to be fired at over 1200 ̊C . The sanding process reveals a clearer pattern, allowing the colours to show through. After firing, each piece is polished by hand to create a smooth satin surface. Emily carefully considers the environmental impact of all her work and makes sure to seek out sustainable products for use in the studio.
