SUMMARY:Cally Trench and Tineke Bruijnzeels: Day after day after day
DESCRIPTION:Daily drawings by the two artists lie at the heart of this exhibition: Tineke Bruijnzeels’ project ‘One more line a day’ using a wide variety of materials and Cally Trench’s ‘Left Hand\, Right Hand’ drawings in ink. Both projects reveal the passage of time\, and focus on the unit of the day – the most important measure of time in our lives\, the unit that governs our routines of waking\, sleeping\, eating and work. \nThe exhibition also includes Tineke’s new patterned abstract oil paintings; curiosity and play are the driving forces behind this project: within the rules that Tineke has set herself\, what will emerge? \nThis will also be the first chance to see Cally’s new series of drawings of flooded houses\, which continue her exploration of the fragility of everyday life\, as well as a new board game and animation films. \nOpening hours: Mon – Sat 10am – 4pm\nClosed: Sun and Bank Holidays \nExhibition Opening\nTuesday 30 June 6-8pm \nDrawing Workshop with the Artists\nThursday 2 July 2-3.30pm\nFree event / booking required \nMeet Cally Trench\nWednesday 15 July 11am-12.30pm \nExhibition Tour and Discussion with the Artists\nSaturday 8 August 2-4pm\nFree event / booking required

SUMMARY:Exploring Strengths in Autism - A Zine Making Workshop Study
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition features a collection of Zines created by 18 autistic young people who participated in the “Exploring Character Strengths in Autism – Zine Making Workshop Study”\, led by Dr. Jiedi Lei’s research team at the University of Oxford. This research study focused on helping autistic children and young people challenge unhelpful stereotypes associated with how autism is portrayed through popular film / TV and media\, and to change the narrative by recognising their personal unique strengths and abilities through exploring Character Strengths.   \nCharacter Strengths make up 24 universal traits that we all hold (e.g.\, Bravery\, Creativity\, and Kindness) and motivate us to take action in everyday life. All young people created Zines – a do-it-yourself publication – that showcased their individual stories of exploring strengths use in everyday life. Guided by young people’s voices and their Zine creations\, we hope that visitors will learn about autism through a strengths focused lens to celebrate individual differences in neurodiversity.   \nThis work is supported by the Public and Community Engagement with Research (PCER) Fund at the University of Oxford and The Paul Foundation.

SUMMARY:Power Station- Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:kickstarting a solar-powered energy revolution. \nInspired by lockdown mutual aid initiatives\, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn decided to turn their street into an energy-generating powerhouse – a prototype for a new way of living\, with the hope of galvanising a wider push towards sustainable alternatives.  \nDirected by the duo\, POWER STATION charts their turbulent journey\, from pitching the idea to their neighbours and sleeping on the roof of their home\, to raising finance and launching a bid for a Christmas number one single.  \nBy turns funny and heartwarming\, Powell and Edelstyn’s film is a vibrant portrait of their local neighbourhood\, and a charming testament to the power of art in changing minds about what could be possible. \nThis is a Collaboration of Low Carbon Oxford North & Makespace Oxfordshire.

SUMMARY:Mapping Monuments: Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Explore the future of Oxford through writing and imagination.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this one-of-a-kind After Hours Studio Session\, you’ll explore the speculative storytelling methods behind Suzanne Treister: Prophetic Dreaming and apply them to Oxford itself. \nYour evening will begin with a free guided tour of the exhibition\, followed by the writing workshop; all necessary materials and a complimentary drink are included in the ticket price too! \nYou’ll explore:\n• Creative writing and speculative storytelling\n• Visual mapping and conceptual development\n• Translating future-focused ideas into public proposals \nWhat to expect: \nThe workshop is inspired by Suzanne Teister’s residency at CERN\, one of the world’s leading centres for particle physics research. During this project\, Treister worked alongside scientists to consider how emerging technologies might shape our collective future. In Scientific Dreaming and AI Quantum Dreaming\, she developed systems of writing\, mapping and speculative thinking to visualise possible worlds. \nIn this session\, you’ll use similar creative techniques to imagine Oxford’s future. Through guided prompts and collaborative exercises\, you’ll develop a concept for a new monument or public marker in the city\, considering what should be anticipated\, protected or challenged in the years ahead. \nNo prior experience is needed. We look forward to seeing you there! \n\nWe offer a range of facilities to ensure we are accessible to visitors. Please click here to find out more about visiting Modern Art Oxford. If you have any questions about your visit\, please get in touch at info@modernartoxforg.org.uk. \nActivities can be adapted to be seated or standing\, and all activities are suitable for wheelchair users or those using mobility aids. A limited number of bursary places are available for this workshop. Please get in touch for further information.
