SUMMARY:Relax & Create
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nAn informal\, mindful hour of unwinding and creating however you choose to. Start with the optional theme\, or do your own thing! \n\n\n\n\nJoin me for a calm hour of mindfulness and creating\, where the emphasis is gentle focus and relaxation. \nTheme\nEach session has an optional theme\, like ‘connection’\, ‘calm’ or ‘acceptance’. \nThe theme is intended as a starting point\, rather than something that needs to be stuck to rigidly. It’s entirely open to your own interpretation. \nYou can also ignore the theme if it’s not resonating with you right now! \nHow this art session works\nThis is an open ended session where you choose what you create. It’s time for you to relax and unwind\, using art and mindfulness to unwind\, create and play! \nMy art sessions are open to anyone*\, regardless of when the last time you made art was. The emphasis is on slowing down and creative self care\, not what your art looks like. There are no skills taught. There’s nothing that can be done wrong (or right). \nThe structure of the sessions\nWe start with a brief check in via the Zoom chat (I’ll ask you what colour you feel like right now!). \nThen I lead an optional mindfulness meditation\, to help settle into the present moment and let go of your to-do list. \nI’ll give some ideas of where you might like to start. We’ll then all create art in our own way\, together\, all muted on Zoom. I’ll play some relaxing music to help set the mood. \nThere is time to share at the end if you’d like to – there is never any pressure to share or speak. \nWhat you’ll need\nWhatever art materials you’d like to use are absolutely perfect! (E.g. paints\, pens\, pencils\, collage materials\, recycled packaging… whatever you fancy!) \nYour safety\n\n*This session is open to those aged 16 and older.\nPlease note this is not art therapy.\n\nThis session includes an optional mindfulness meditation to help you relax. It will last around 10 minutes. Whilst mindfulness meditation is generally a very safe practice\, there are some contraindications: \nAs we will be focussing on the breath\, if you have asthma or a serious breathing difficulty\, please have a fully charged inhaler with you. \nAs relaxation can trigger epileptic seizures\, if you have epilepsy that is not controlled by medication\, please seek your doctor’s permission before joining. \nWhen booking your place you agree to the above terms and conditions and agree that you have read and fully understand the terms and conditions around health care. Ultimately\, the responsibility to take the best care of yourself lies with you. \nLovely words\n“Eden’s art class was soothing because it provided an hour or so to stop\, breathe and enjoy the process. I’d highly recommend giving one of her classes a go\, whatever your skill level or experience. It was a calming point of my day.” \n“Loved today’s session after a particularly stressful week. Thank you. I feel loads better now.”

SUMMARY:Exploring Strengths in Autism - A Zine Making Workshop Study
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition features a collection of Zines created by 18 autistic young people who participated in the “Exploring Character Strengths in Autism – Zine Making Workshop Study”\, led by Dr. Jiedi Lei’s research team at the University of Oxford. This research study focused on helping autistic children and young people challenge unhelpful stereotypes associated with how autism is portrayed through popular film / TV and media\, and to change the narrative by recognising their personal unique strengths and abilities through exploring Character Strengths.   \nCharacter Strengths make up 24 universal traits that we all hold (e.g.\, Bravery\, Creativity\, and Kindness) and motivate us to take action in everyday life. All young people created Zines – a do-it-yourself publication – that showcased their individual stories of exploring strengths use in everyday life. Guided by young people’s voices and their Zine creations\, we hope that visitors will learn about autism through a strengths focused lens to celebrate individual differences in neurodiversity.   \nThis work is supported by the Public and Community Engagement with Research (PCER) Fund at the University of Oxford and The Paul Foundation.
