REVERBERATIONS: Art by Tom Cartmill, Ceramics by Michele Bianco
This exciting exhibition at Irving Contemporary’s East Oxford gallery brings together the monochromatic abstract art works of Tom Cartmill with the beautiful hand built ceramics of Michele Bianco.
Tom Cartmill is an abstract artist who is interested in exploring changes through time and the inevitable accumulation of experience in his practice. The way that buildings and much used objects age, weathering and transforming with the passage of time, is a constant source of inspiration. He works at evoking a ‘patina of experience’ in his pictures, exploring the possibilities of ink and paper as well as making mixed media pieces, all within a monochromatic palette.
Michele Bianco is a ceramicist based in the Scottish Highlands whose work is inspired by the forms, patterns, and textures in the world around her – the mesh of branches on wintry trees, geometric patterns in eroded rock faces, or the intricate patterns of pods, leaves, and petals. All her pieces are hand built using a range of techniques, and then hand carved, creating beautiful sculptural objects of contemplation.
The exhibition is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 5pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm, or by appointment on other days. Email us to make an appointment.
