Stallholder Focus: Miesje Chafer

 In Events, Indie Oxford Interviews

The Independent Oxford Christmas Market is back this year on 2nd December at Turl Street Kitchen in Oxford, just under a month away! We’ve got 18 exciting stallholders for you this year, who we will be catching up with on the blog, ahead of the market on 2nd December.

Today we’re talking to designer/maker Miesje Chafer.

Miesje Chafer

Tell us about you business.

Hello! I am a textile designer, screen printer and maker, and I make a range of homewares and accessories including cushions, lampshades, purses, aprons and hair accessories in bold bright designs.

Tell us a bit about yourself, your role and what you enjoy most about your job.

I was a nurse for many years, but after a while I decided I wanted to try something creative so I went on a 3 day screenprinting course. I completely fell in love with printing and spent the next 2 years trying to get better at it and making a few prototype products. 7 years on and I have given up nursing, gotten myself a studio and thrown myself into full time making! It’s just me so I do EVERYTHING, from designing to making, selling, photography, website maintenance and social media. The bit I love the most is creating new designs and products, although I really do love every part of it (apart from updating the website, I definitely don’t love that!)

Describe the gifts you will be selling at the Independent Oxford Christmas Market.

This year I’ll be bringing all my old faves including purses, cushions and fabric pots, but I’ve also been creating a wider range of hair accessories including bow clips and bands, and sequinned wire headbands for adults and children. Everything is made by me, and range from £5 up to £100.

What’s your favourite product in the range?

Probably the sequinned bow hair clips!

Lastly, what are your favourite indies in Oxford?

Hmm thats a toughie as there are so many good ones! I have to admire Truck for surviving so long in the ever evolving world of Cowley Road, plus they do have a great selection of vinyl! Also, I’m not sure whether you would count it as an Indie Oxford business but I have to give a shout out to the Oxford Print makers Cooperative for providing such fantastic facilities and support for both experienced and budding print makers – I definitely wouldn’t be where I am now without them!

We’re so pleased to have Miesje join us again for our 3rd market. Miesje always has an eye catching stall filled with gorgeous, colourful products. Make sure you check it out next month. Our Christmas Market will take place on 2nd December at Turl Street Kitchen.

Join us from 10 am – 5 pm for a day packed full of awesome indies and festive fun!

Love, Rosie
