For the Love of Pen and Paper…
Everyone loves buying new stationery. By just purchasing it you can convince yourself you’re more organised (I defy anyone to say they haven’t done that at least once!) and who hasn’t spent more time than they’d care to admit chuckling at witty cards?
As we do more and more on screens, from sending emails to checking our phones for texts or retweets, we’re experiencing less ink on paper. Yet, how excited did you get you when you last received a envelope though the door? When we receive a letter written by hand, it’s somehow much more special than words on a screen.
We’re a bit late to the party, but this week was National Stationery Week (29th April to 3rd May), a celebration of the power of the written word. The week aims to encouraging people to put pen to paper more often. So, to help you find that next card or notebook for planning your worldwide takeover, here’s the lowdown of the top five best indie stationery stockists in Oxford.
First up, Shop at the Old Fire Station, city centre stockist of UK designed and made items. Among jewellery, ceramics and magazines find a plethora of notebooks, pencil cases and note cards.
Heading East of Oxford, studio based project Love Your Plane, stocks a veritable delight of paper based products including a delicious array of cards from numerous designers.
Online and pop-up based Kinship of Oxford also offers up notebooks, storage boxes and pretty tapes to impress the opener of your next present.
