An Interview with Rianna Low – Indie Oxford Marketing & Admin Assistant
Rianna joined us in December and we’re already reaping the benefits of her talents and positivity! She brings with her a wealth of communications, marketing and graphic design experience which means we can do even more to support and promote independent businesses in Oxfordshire this year.

Tell me a bit about yourself!
I love learning! From new skills, to random facts… you’ll usually find me buried in books, watching documentaries or searching for answers/tutorials on the internet. As a creative person, I’m always searching for ways to enhance and improve in my work and build a broader professional skill set; I recently completed my Master’s Degree in Visual Communication, which was fantastic and really enabled me to explore new ways of thinking, both technically as well as academically. I love problem solving and coming up with unique solutions and ideas! That’s one of the reasons I love being a freelancer and being able to work for lots of different companies – it’s keeps things fresh and exciting but also allows you to develop unique relationships, particularly as I work with a lot of smaller businesses and organisations.
What attracted you to working with us at Independent Oxford?
I love all things one of a kind: businesses, products, narratives and even buildings (so Oxford indies really tick all the boxes!) I truly believe that independent businesses offer so much more than just the products they sell; the atmosphere they create and the stories they have to tell are equally unique, so I was really excited to work with a company that wants to celebrate and promote that.
What skills do you bring to the team that will help Independent Oxford promote indies even more in 2018?
I believe my skill set is broad and dynamic, which I think will be great for Independent Oxford going forward. I have a wealth of experience in marketing and design and as mentioned, I also love problem solving and idea generating, so hopefully that is something that will also come in handy!
Why do you believe it’s really important to support indie businesses?
I believe without indies the world would be a very dull place!
Multinationals, of course, pose a big threat to small businesses but indies really do give the consumer more than just a product, so we need to be promoting and supporting all these amazing little jems!
Which are your favourite indies in Oxford?
I am a huge foodie (especially when it comes to Italian food), so Mamma Mia’s and IScream satisfy all of my sweet and savoury needs on the Italian front! I also love all the uniqueness that The Covered Market has to offer and as a film buff, I think Ultimate Picture Palace is great!
We’re really excited to have Rianna on board! If you have any questions for her, you can email her here or leave a comment below.
Love, Rosie
