24 Hours in Oxford with Oxfordshire Living

 In Indie Oxford Explore

Whether you’re visiting Oxford for work, a holiday or study, there are now more options than ever when it comes to choosing where to stay! You can find yourself becoming overwhelmed with options, spending hours scrolling through reviews and asking yourself questions such as is there a kettle? What am I near? Is there parking? Well the good news is, if you’re looking for the perfect home away from home in Oxford, we’ve found it (and test driven it)!

Oxfordshire Living offer flexible short term accommodation, where guests can enjoy the freedom, space and comfort of the self-catering properties as an alternative to a hotel. All their properties are fully equipped and come with items such as linens, towels, kitchenware and a welcome hamper. You can even get flowers delivered from amazing local florist, Bicycle Blooms, if you’re looking to mark a special occasion! Every property is its own design and personality and the team have taken care over ensuring each property is beautifully designed, whilst also making sure they are in the best locations!

We stayed in the beautiful Central Oxford Penthouse apartment, the ideal spot in order to be close to the city bustle but remote enough to ensure a good night sleep! We were greeted with beautiful Bicycle Blooms flowers and delicious cupcakes from Happy Cakes. We love it when indies collaborate to offer something really special. Our experience could not have been better, so this week we catch up with Vanessa Vaghetti, who set up Oxfordshire Living, to map out your perfect Oxford break!

“Oxford is small enough that you can walk everywhere, but it means you are on your feet most of the day. I love the fact that you can walk around the city and have the time to stop and take in the beautiful streets and buildings.”

With check-in at the apartments from 3pm (and luggage storage for guests arriving before then), there’s plenty of time to get settled and head out into town. With many of the apartments within a few minutes of the centre it’s easy to get out and about on foot, although Vanessa recommends a good comfy pair of shoes, “Oxford is small enough that you can walk everywhere, but it means you are on your feet most of the day. I love the fact that you can walk around the city and have the time to stop and take in the beautiful streets and buildings.”

Once in town, why not see a show at Old Fire Station, whether it’s comedy, drama or a talk, there’s load to discover here! After the final curtain, why not enjoy a delicious drink at The Grapes, and then head over to Buongiorno e Buonnsera (as we did!) for a takeaway pizza! As you’re only a few moments from town, you can head back to your apartment and enjoy it on your private terrace, watching the beautiful sunset across the city!

After a good night’s sleep, enjoy an easy going morning at your apartment and then head over to Handlebar Café for a delicious brunch! Now you’ve got some energy stores, why not do a bit more exploring! Take a stroll up Broad Street and along Turl Street, and pop into a college on route! Vansessa says, “I love going inside the University Colleges and learning all about the history of the buildings and who has studied there.”  You can then take a much earned break in The Covered Market, there’s lots of amazing coffee shops and eateries to enjoy plus there’s loads of local produce available that you can grab for dinner later! You can then take a short walk over to Modern Art Oxford and enjoy the latest exhibition on display there! Head back to your beautiful home from home for a bit of relaxing and enjoy cooking up a delicious local meal, with all the cooking equipment you need at the apartment it couldn’t be easier (and there’s a dishwasher!) We also found the wine glasses very handy and enjoyed some delicious prosecco – just perfect in the summer!

It’s your final morning in the city, why not enjoy a lovely coffee on your terrace overlooking the city, with a Nespresso machine at your fingertips, it’s hard to resist! Checkout is quick and easy and our experience was seamless! If you don’t need to rush off right away, why not head to Turl Street Kitchen for breakfast or perhaps head outside the city on your way home, Vanessa recommends punting at the beautiful Cherwell Boathouse in North Oxford (weather permitting of course!).
